I made a mistake I sorely regret, but my girlfriend won't forgive me

Hey everybody, I'm new here and I don't know if I'm doing this right, but here goes. Recently my girlfriend of three years essentially caught me masturbating to a picture of her cousin. While she didn't walk in on me, she found the picture and when she questioned me I admitted to it. Honestly I had forgotten all about the picture. In fact, I felt really bad about it while in the process, and I stopped and stowed it away in shame. Yes, I realize that what I did was really messed up. I take full responsibility for my actions and I regret it more than I've ever regretted anything before. Please, don't judge me for what I did. I realize it was wrong.
Anyway, needless to say my girlfriend is furious with me. She is disgusted to the point where she won't let me touch her in any capacity. I've told her how sorry I am, how much I regret my action. I've promised to never hurt her like that again and I've admitted how wrong of me it was to do that. It was a one time mistake, an impulse I instantly regretted and will never repeat. I've apologized profusely, I've basically kissed the ground she walks on, but to no avail. Despite all of my attempts, she is still disgusted with me, and we are on VERY thin ice.
Does anyone have any advice for me, as far as getting her to realize we can work past this? Getting her to trust me again? This girl is the most important thing in the world to me, and I'd hate to lose her over such a stupid, impulsive mistake.

Well... what disgusts her is not the rational part of you, that felt guilty mid-way and put the photo away and that is now profusely apologizing. It is the instinctive part of you, that wants to f*ck her cousin. There's nothing you can do to change that, so either she accepts it or she doesn't. If she does, all is fine (just be more careful next time, don't get caught! Even if she accepts it doesn't mean that it doesn't make her feel bad). If she doesn't, the relationship is over.

Basically, there's nothing you can do, but reassure her that you love her and that she is much hotter than her cousin (out of curiosity, is she?).

Just ask her who she fantasises about when she's masturbating.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my girlfriend is much more attractive than her cousin. Her cousin has larger breasts though (I don't think this makes her more attractive), and I believe my girlfriend was made very self conscious by that fact. I've told her I don't prefer larger breasts, but she remains unconvinced.

It's normal to have sexual fantasies. As Boisdevie said, she surely fantasizes about someone else when masturbating, too. It's perfectly natural, and it doesn't mean that she doesn't love you or find you attractive (as you well know). Try to make her realize this.

The only solution to this situation is for her to accept what you did as a perfectly natural part of your sexuality. I bet if the photo had been of some famous actress, she wouldn't have reacted this way. What upsets her is that it was her cousin. So try to make her understand that, on a purely instinctive, sexual level, that picture was no different than watching porn. Unless she has a problem with porn too...
