Your Thoughts, Please

A question, well not a question per se....just some input, please.

I finally met my e-paramour in the flesh. He's a great guy, everything I hoped he would be and then some but....


He has a funny habit of taking mental notes out loud. Not in a " I must make a mental note of that" way but in a mumbling things to himself kind of way and he does it a lot.


For instance, after meeting at the airport, we stopped for a drink on the way to my place. We sat at the bar and placed our orders, I ordered my usual Jameson and Ginger which caused him to start muttering she likes Jameson and ginger ale about 5 times to himself.

Should I rack this up to jitters and jet lag or is do you think there is a serious underlying problem here?

weird, but he was likely nervous and trying to fill silent gaps by doing that without realising

Are we talking about Doc again? Because we could just ask him...

Do you see Doc's name anywhere in my post?

Actualy there are a lot of people who do that. It's quite normal, you probaly just never noticed it.

Go for example to a supermarket and despite the noise surrounding you, pay attention to the shoppers lips.. you'll see a lot of them mumbling.

Or go to a busy office environment, you'll notice the same thing.

Appearantly it helps them focus and memorize.

I catch myself doing this on occasion when working on a complex task I have to do from memory or when memorizing a technical manual. My wife, friends, family and colleagues are used to it, just like I am used to seeing the majority of my colleagues doing the same thing.

If that's his only (perceived) "flaw", he's 99.9% perfect :)

That would be really annoying to me, but it's only a serious problem if you make it one. I don't think it indicates insanity or anything, but do you want to deal with that long-term?

It does annoy me, and it almost seems like some form of ocd. So far, though, the good is outweighing the bad by far, so I guess we'll see.

On the bright side, I haven't heard him muttering she's a bitch yet :lol:

I know that would annoy me, but I'm picky. If he's awesome otherwise, good. Ask him about it.

Just make sure he isn't talking to people who aren't in the room.

That would creep me out a little. Perhaps ask him to note stuffs down and mutter some other time?
