Should I get him a present and should I pay for dinner? Second date.

So this guy doesn't know that I know its his birthday on the day he asked to meet up.
He said he paid for tickets so should I get him a present and pay for dinner? If so what should I get him?
Dinner is quite a bit expensive is my only concern.

I also only see him as a friend and haven't developed any feeling for him yet so don't wanna send the wrong message across.

I would just play it safe and see what the night has to offer. So, no present. You could offer to help pay for dinner. Better yet, find out where you are eating dinner & call ahead to have a dessert prepared as a surprise with a candle.
