Guys and Girl Living Together? Is this OK?

I have a question that I am really curious about. So, I'm not from here originally, so I don't know all the social conventions and 'rules', so I would love some insight. I actually just posted under another topic, but this question has been burning me.

I know that guys and girls can live together here under friendship. I've been tempted to too. BUT, how extreme can this be and for it to still be accepted? I have a friend who, as it turns out, will be living with 6 other guys all in one house next year. I confess that I highly disapprove. I would be more comfortable with it had it been more balanced (like 2 girls, 2 guys). And, this girl's parents approve and have given permission. I love her parents to death, but I know that had it been my daughter, I would have NEVER allowed this.

So, my question is, is this acceptable? Is this normal? I'm at a loss.

It might raise an eyebrow here and there. But it's, really, so utterly relative to the people involved that's it's impossible for me to either or approve or disapprove solely on the basis of gender numbers. If the young lady is anywhere near 18 years old, there's not much anyone can do to restrict her from doing what she wants, in any case. If she's 18 or over, no one has even a right to try to in most circumstances.

No. Guys and Girls must never live together. If they do they should be seperated by a giant partition like in Riyadh. That is the only solution...

They should also always cover their hair...

I'm not saying that anything should be done, nor asking if it is right. I won't be a judge of that, and I am not asking any of u to be. I am just asking how it would be viewed SOCIALLY in America. I am well aware how many places would view such a set-up.

The Right Wing Social Christians of America will view this a definite sin and will probably boycott the Mormons from ever approaching their doorstep for such blasphemy...

Depends on the age group, largely. Obviously, younger people will be more accepting, and older generations will be more likely to raise an eyebrow. This is because older people realize that young guys would be willing to have sex with just about any girl who is willing, and if they aren't actually having sex with her, then they are at least thinking about it. Younger generations will try to tell themselves that this is not the case, especially the girls.

How many bedrooms/baths will this house have? You couldn't get me to live with 6 guys unless they all had OCD. Too messy, and I wouldn't want to be cleaning up after them all the time.

Here's my perspective.

AmeriCorps is made up of 70% females (95% being white) and about 30% males age ranges 18-24.

I've been living with 6 other girls and 2 other guys.

Currently our housing forces to eat and sleep all in one big room.

We're around eachother 24/7.

Have we had a problem?

No.

Do I feel a bit of sexual tension?

Yes.

Does America approve?

I wouldn't ****in' care if it did.

LOL! Well put, Fras. It DOES get annoying when people doubt one's better judgment on the basis of what only they themselves are fearful COULD happen...in a circumstance they aren't even privvy to.

But Fras, you have no choice in your living arrangement, she does.

As a father of two young girls, there is no way in hell that either would be living with one guy, yet alone 6. Period.

I'm a guy and grew with lots of guy friends; there is no way that situation is going to have a Happy Ending; no pun intended.

Oh there is always a choice.

I'm not forced to stay here, at any time I can up and leave AmeriCorps if I find conditions unbearable.

It's more a matter of whether a person can adapt to the circumstances or not.

And believe me, there have been people that couldn't handle it.

Plus, why is this girl livin' with all these other guys?

I dunno, but I'm sure she has her reasons and I don't think we should really care why as long as there isn't any abuse goin' on.
