I think it is some sort or new-age healing method for modern day hippies.

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926).
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1.5 hours with each position held for 3 minutes.
But reiki it is not only for treatment, not so easy to explain... reiki can change your life for a good way, can fill you with love. this is miracle actually.

Welcome!
Reiki is NOT for hippies, BTW Vash.
My great aunt and my mother are both Reiki masters, and both of them hardly what you'd call hippies. Definition: Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a combination of two Japanese words Rei and Ki meaning Universal Life Energy. Ancient laying-on of hands healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal, balancing the sublte energies in our bodies ( physical, emotional, mental and spiritual).
I used to think it was a bunch of crap until my mom started giving me treatments. It was pretty cool stuff. Apparently, they can detect disruptions in your body energy that can signify an imbalance or injury in your body.

hrmm... healing though energy.. something that the japan probably would create. hey, i'm all about japanese tradition and their culture, but i think that healing through the power of energy is a bunch of bs.
