interested ... but is she?

bear with me, this is a long one!
i met a girl a few weeks ago where i stay in uni and we were just chatting and we seemed to get on well. i told her straight out that i had a girlfriend but was going to split up with her as i could not handle the long distance that had been created and i was losing most of my feeling for her. when i went to the toilet my mate recorded a convo he had with her saying that if i was interested she would go out with me but she was worried that i had a girlfriend. we spent some time together that night and started kissing and she told me i was gorgeous and i equally complimented her.
a week later and we meet again, but i was convinced she was interested and im normally quite good at reading women. but its harder when im reading a girl that I like! my mates were there too and they were convinced she liked me. there was minimal conversation as we were in a group but i had my hand on her knee and she was playing with my fingers and she didnt mind the odd peck on the back of the neck. i took her to the bus stop (we were by ourselves) and then things got quite nice. we exchanged more compliments and we had a 2 hour convo after i got back to my halls at 3am once she had gone back home.
since then (almost 2 weeks) i cant honestly tell whether she likes me or not. shes a very busy girl and shes actively involved in the community. i text her and very rarely get a reply. we talked on msn on monday for 3 hours and it seemed like i was being "vetted". such questions like "whats the most expensive present uve bought" etc type questions.
when we were talkin on the phone she asked me if she was with me in my bed what i would do... and i replied that i would be romantic and intimate as i had been at the bus stop (strokin behind ear, gently kisses on cheek etc which she liked ) also in the bar earlier that day she texted my mate saying "he seems really nice guy but i dont know much about him".
some other things you may want to know.
im 22 (tomorrow) and she is 19 (today).
we have both just finished long relationships (i was 16 months, she was 18 months)
she is a virgin, i am not.
she was cheated on by her last boyfriend.
she agreed to meet me for lunch on monday in the hope to get to know me better. its hard for summer as ive gone back home now and its a 1hr train trip to see her.
this is what i want to know!...
is she interested?
what shall i do on monday?
is she looking for the chase?
shall i be more assertive?
shall i be less/more forceful? should i play it cool? play the friend role? be more cheeky? more confident?
is she scared of me coz her last bf was an idiot?
also it was her birthday today, should i get her a card? a small present? neither?
or shall i just bite my lip and forget about her?
im crazy about this girl, i think about her all the time, and ive never felt this way before and ive had a few girlfriends in the past (not that im a flirt :p)
