I like this guy, but..

There's a guy in school that I like. We talked a few times in class, but not much. He's very social and talks to almost everyone. He's my best friend's cousin and he started talking with me in one of my class today. He's a real nice guy. I'm a shy girl though, and usually only talk a lot to my close friends, and I don't really like to go to parties. He talks to everyone and likes to go to parties. Should I try to talk to him? How can I tell if he likes me? And what should I say to him?? Oh and we're both 17

I don't think there can be any harm in talking to him, and seeing if he strikes up a conversation with you.
