read the books, damnit. its like the shining, yeah it's not real, doesn't stop it from being creepy. zombies aren't real, but reading about people being eaten by them and the world being overrun by them is still unnerving.

anyway, yes, zombies are scary. They're real in a sense though, the concept and word does come from an actual real thing, that's been totally distorted by the entertainment industry of course.
There are a few theories on the origins of zombies. The whole debate is a bit tangled.
Zombies were people who were intentionally poisoned so that they'd come very close to death, and if they recovered they'd have amnesia, severe brain damage, etc, and they were used as mindless slaves. That's one theory I heard of anyways.

Me and my friend arleady have our "in the event of a zombie takeover" plan.
It includes baseball bats and shotguns.
shaun of the dead was great. i rented the original dawn of the dead, and that was just funny. the zombies were blue. and it was one of the few horror movies where the black guy didn't die, but actually deserved to.
psh, baseball bats and a shotgun, good luck. if zombies take over you need to get to antarctica or an island. if it's only temporary, get upstairs and destroy the staircase. zombies can't climb or jump. since the only way to kill a zombie is by removing its head, get a pistol and a bolt action rifle and a hatchet or crowbar. don't use fire except to dispose of corpses.

Because that seems backasswards to me.
accuracy and distance. you don't want to have to fight the zombies up close and shotguns have very little range. also, more likely than not, in the event that you would use a shotgun the situation would be such that rather than aiming for headshots, you'd be using it for its stopping power. hence, you'd have a bunch of slightly slowed down but still alive zombies on your hands. also bolt action rifles are faster to reload. though it wouldn't necessarily have to be bolt action, a single action carbine would work as well.
