Fras got laid off-
Things have been slow at the job site.
Despite plenty of work needing to be done, everything has been at a crawl the past month. At one point I was even at the company warehouse literally counting screws. Hundreds and hundreds of screws. But at least I was collecting my 12.
I got sent back to the firestation where things have still been slow, and despite finding a few small projects to work on, right at the end of the day, with little forewarning except "some of the helpers at the shop are gonna get laid off", I got my pretty little farewell envelope.
"It wasn't my decision, I came to work to find all these submissions on my desk. It's ultimately the bosses' call, which would explain why he was drinking all weekend."
On the brighter side, they did give me contact to call within Tradesmen International, who are supposed to be looking for helpers for a few jobs anyway, which also are supposed to pay $100, per diem on top of an hourly wage (if I'm mistaken).
"Just wanna let you know we're only doing this because of the lack of work, and it should only be for a few weeks. You guys are our best helpers, and when we get those jobs goin' we definitely want you back."
I called them, and I'm suppose to call back in about 5 minutes.
Hopefully I won't miss a single day of work, but we'll see.

Crapola. That sucks, Fras. Keep your head up. Getting laid off feels terrible.
-
Don't wait for the crush, Fras, once it sinks in. Put our your feelers TODAY.
-
Y'know, I'm honestly not that worried.
But when my foreman gave me that envelope and told me I was being laid off...it was weird, I felt like I was being rejected or something. It's just a situation where there's nothing I could have done about it. I know I'm one of the best helpers there. I've learned a shit load in the past year, one of the most skilled at my level and easily the best equipped.
Things are serious if they're letting go Kevin and me.
I don't have a doubt that they'd want us back no a doubt in my mind.
They just better hope none of us find other, better work before they try to get back to us.

Wow, times are sure tough nowadays. I'm sorry Fras, hopefully you'll be back at work in no time at all.
-
for people in your trade, it's never hard to find a job.
you could put ads in the paper as a fix-it person. there's a guy like that for my house and he is always busy and he makes good money.
-
can you start your own little thing?
-
I'm sorry to hear about that Fras. Hopefully it's just a small set back and you'll find something much better.
-
I'm far too inexperienced and ill equipped to do my own thing like that. The majority of my tools are specialized for electrical work.
I don't mind looking for work outside of that realm, but I'm definitely more valuable in the electrical trade.
I'm already making phone calls and checking ads.
-
Yay! Well at least you aren't falling into a slumber! Sorry to hear about your loss though :/
-
I just filed for unemployment.
It's a week by week basis, so I need to reapply every week for it.
Don't know how much I'll get, I heard it's 60% of what I used to earn, but I think that's just the maximum.
So assuming there are no issues with my application, you all along with Louisiana are gonna help me stay afloat!
I think I'll take a trip to Alaska!
-
I've already applied to 16 jobs!
I love the internet!
Tomorrow I will get a paper and roam around New Orleans for "now hiring" signs.

thats great! you'll have a job in no time
