Is he genuine or does he want to use me?

My ex contacted me after a year of us not talking. Yes, its that ex who I truely fell for but dumped because he treated me coldly during our relationship. I thought the relationship was one sided (with me doing all the work). Now, he emailed me and apologized for all the things he thought he did wrong and asked me for my forgiveness.

I think when people contact their exes after a long time, it usually mean they're love life isn't going well and they are looking for an ego boost. Do you think its the same in this case? Or do you think there is a chance he is genuine and that he realized it was bad judgement on his part for that way he acted. I am aware that guys acts indifferent and slightly cruel to girls for the reason that they think its the best way to keep her by his side (a.k.a the bad boy image). Do you think after a year of trying to make me jealous (when he suddenly become mr. casanova with girls) and that I didn't react in anyway, he is changing strategies?

If its too early to tell what his motivations are. What are some ways I can find out?

I think you hit the nail on the head. His love life must've taken a dive and now he wants you back. Don't fall for his crap.

i second that...when people know someone that treated them right and they werent doin the same they remember that and when one chick isnt goin his way theyll remember oh yea so and so lemme see if shes still interested..NAH UH

I'd suggest you tell him thank you for the apology and you hope he has a nice life. Then leave it at that.

Just live your life and don;t look back to the past.
That is the problem, after they lose you they realize what the lose. I think like the other users that u need to send him a reply in which to tel him to live his life, or not to reply to him anymore.

well if he is serious then he wont mind putting some effort in right? so if u want to think about getting back with him (if he will now make u happy) then let him prove himself first... but it's hard to tell, it may just be as u said and that he just needs a quick ego boost, just dont jump to any conclusions just yet and definately dont get too serious just yet.

No necessarily. I contacted my ex when I was in a relationship. Just was curious to find out what she's been up to. Don't read too much into it.

Why would you want to know what his intentions are anyway? Still got the hots for him?

Yes Mishanya, I still like him. But I know whats best for me.

I'm confused about what is his real intentions because if he really wants to know whats up with me, he could've done it long time ago. I share classes with him and we never talked. Just when classes and exams are over, he contacts me? The timing raises suspicions.

Thanks to those who replied. I think I have made too many assumptions about him (his wanting to use me, etc). I think its just that cupid hasn't came my way and thats none of his or my fault.
