I would just like to ask what was so great about The Beatles. I really can't stand to hear more than one of their songs at a time without strangling a marmot of some kind.

I, like you, am not a fan of the beatles. I don't know what it was about them that caught the heart of America. I guess it would have to be their unique sound. The beatles are just not for everyone I guess.
well people that love the beatles grew up in a different time period, thus having different interest. my parents probably can't stand the trance that i listen to, and i know they probably don't understand why i love it. it's just a difference of opinions to me. raverboy
And yeah, that makes sense, but The Beatles were this big huge phenomenon. Like everyone was in love with them. Just kinda curious as to what made these average musicians so explosive.
well, maybe you're just the type of person who doesnt like the "norm" ... i've noticed that mainstream things dont appeal to you ... hahaha ... not a bad thing tho ... i'm a big fan of the Beatles, myself ... a lot of their music was controversial for that time ... hearing them for the first time 30 years after their breakup doesnt do them much justice, but at the time, the messages they put out on their records were deep and the censors werent very lenient ... you couldnt talk about sex or anything like that ... drug references and shit like that were eye/ear-openers ... it was a really conservative time (hope i used that term correctly ... correct me if im wrong tho! haha) i think ... also, one of the first music groups to make music to listen to ... without the intention of getting you to dance ...
I think that the beatles are great!! i think some people are 2 obsessed with them tho...
like the ppl who tried and have killed them :surprised
Very perceptive, I do tend to hate things that everyone else likes. When I see something really popular I scrutinize it heavily and try my hardest to find something I don't like about it. If I can't I admit to its greatness, if I can then I hate it forever. My general rule is "if everyone likes it, there must be something very wrong with it."Quote:

The Beatles are alright, but The Byrds are where its at!
Im not too much into that kinda music..im more a hard house/trance kinda chick..but my parents liked the beatles...well some of their songs anyway!
Illusional where are you situated now?
You....just went up about 100 points on my list. You know, I've sat down and listened to quite a few beatles songs lately and I have no idea what you're talking about when you say controversial. They're just a bunch of crappy songs yelping about nothing.Quote:

Even so, none of the songs I've heard by them have anything the slightest bit controversial in them, regardless of times.
Listen to their later stuff, there is plenty there. It may be hard to pick up on some of it though because alot of it was refrences from stuff going on at the time.
Do you happen to remember any of the titles off the top of your head?
