Should've kept my thoughts to myself.
But I was somewhat discussing this with her, so I said it without thinking.
So her organization, (though not under her supervision), is starting this program for local volunteers to get on a team and compete with other teams to do service projects.
So I figured I'd go for it. Thing was, this VISTA volunteer who's running it hasn't provided many details on how this is all going to work. I don't have a lot of confidence is this chick, and I sent a bunch of questions to her about how this shit is gonna work.
In an e-mail to us she said we'll have to determine a team lead. And I was talking to my g/f about how I don't want to be team lead, but then again I don't know if I'd trust anybody else to do it. It's 4 girls and 2 guys (including myself). So my g/f said, "Well, it's not like the team lead would be doing much else besides keeping in contact with the rest of the team." to which I said, "Yeah, I guess I girl could do that well enough."
She wasn't happy with me having said that, though I can't retract that statement because it's not like I didn't mean what I said. I meant what I said, I just shouldn't have said it.
No, I don't have a lot of confidence in 20 something year old women's ability to lead. Not until proven otherwise. I've met too many idealistic airheads to trust their management skills.
Yes, I was on an AmeriCorps team that composed of several strong, independent females, but even then, our team was not the norm, so I would presume the vast majority of women are like them.
And to be really honest. Even my g/f has trouble managing people. It's been something I've been helping her struggle with this entire year. It hasn't been until recently that she actually began to take my advice to which she's gotten extremely positive results.
Ugh.
