How do I approach a BIG group of German girls?

I live pretty close to a boarding house for German and Austrian girls studying abroad in the US and going to universities in my area. Every Tuesday night, they all go to the local Starbucks I sometimes hangout at. They've been doing that for years.

Every Tuesday, there's always atleast 30 girls there, all speaking German.

Most of them are really pretty. Needless to say, I'd like to get to know a few of them, or even just one.

But they stick to such a tight circle. They all talk to eachother and in German. I'd feel wierd butting into a conversation that was going on in another language.

Any suggestions?

accidentally bump into one while passing by. and while apologizing very sincerely, check for a reaction. if she/they smile at you then start up a convo (ask them about their studies and the program they are in and such...). if they dont have a positive expression then it's prob best to apologize and walk away. OH another good one is, if you sit close enough, when one sneezes jump in and say bless you, again check for reaction and go from there. guys always seem to use that on me, and even when i'm not interested, i still find it cute enough to at least have a small convo. with them. good luck :-)

Alright, I'm sorry. I really don't mean to be mean, but that will TOTALLY NOT WORK for me.

First off, "accidentally bump into them?" Isn't that what Cosmo and Seventeen tells little girls in high school to do? I don't think it'll work for a guy in college.

Second of all, these girls occupy an entire corner of the cafe, so it's pretty hard to deliberately walk in that direction, totally away from the bar, the door or anything else, and make it look "accidental."

Third, how am I supposed to bump into people sitting down?

Fourth, bumping into anyone, accidental or not, while holding a scalding hot drink is a really bad idea.

Fifth, this runs the extreme risk of humiliating yourself or making your intentions known to every girl in that group, in which case, you not only fail with one girl, but you blow your chances with all of them.

And I'm supposed to just wait around until one of them just sneezes? What am I supposed to do in the meantime? What if no one sneezes?

Take a couple of your friends and get a table next to them. Wait for the right moment and casually start talking to one, get your friends to join in and talk to the other girls so they don't interrupt the two of you.

Yeah, walk up to the one you like most when she's a bit away from the group (like going to the washroom or so) and tell her you'd be interested in getting to know her better.

Make sure her 'escort' isn't around when you do that.

I know that takes guts, but women like men with guts.. so.. even if you don't score with her, another gall from the group may become very interested in you because of your confidence.

wow wow wow Cyanosphere i'm just trying to help, no need to get your panties in a twist. i'm in college myself and i'm just telling you what i've seen work and what i feel would work. i wouldn't know what cosmo tells girls to do since i've never read it and i suggest you stop too :-p. second of all, you are asking how to bump into someone sitting down, well i think at least one of them will have to get up at some point, it's impossible that they sit there without ever getting up. to your third point, you don't need to have a hot drink, they have cold drinks in Starbucks, very tasty you should try one sometime, and you don't need to hold anything, you can be walking in or out or position your friend so you'd have to walk past the girls to meet your friend. and the sneeze thing is obviously if the opportunity comes up. but at the end of the day you need to have some confidence and not be afraid of embarrassment! if you are confident no one will look down on you for trying to pick up a cute girl (or two) up at a coffee shop. there is no magic formula, so if you want a magic guide that will guarantee 100% success and no chance of embarrassment, then stay home. as long as YOU don't feel embarrassed, the situation will not be embarrassing. so come on dude. i'm sure you are a very handsome young men, so just gather up some confidence and if you do get rejected, it's not a big deal, their loss and there is plenty of fish in the sea. :-)

But I'd advice you against German girls. Austrian, maybe. But not German.

Watch "Beerfest". You need to train yourself to drink a lot of beer. Beer drinkers in Germany get all the ladies.

Sit where your monitor can be seen by the girls, and set the volume to a hearable but not intrusive level.

As you go through the dialogues, repeat the German dialogue in half-voice, mispronouncing some of the words.

You may catch the attention of one or more of them who may volunteer to help you.

Try learning a few words or phrases in German, like "Guten Abend," (Good evening) or "Sie sind hübsch." (You are good looking/beautiful)

German people are very friendly and welcoming.
Go over, say "Hallo! *smile* Können Sie Englisch sprechen?" they will say yes, and ask if you can join them because you were sitting alone. I promise that they'll be happy to chat to you.
