Is it wrong to wait someone out, who isnt emotionally ready yet, if you feel that he (or she) is 'the one'? Or do you believe that if you meet someone who is right for you, there wont be any problems, there will be love at first sight and no problems and things will just work out?
When only one party is invested in such a thought don't you think that's a pretty distorted view of a working, lasting relationship?
Don't you think BOTH parties should hold the same view?

Yes, it's wrong. If the timing isn't right, then move on and hope to reconnect later when that person is more ready. Don't sit there holding your breath. You're probably not as ready for "the one" as you could be, either, and more life experience can't hurt.

I certainly don't want to hold my breath, but ppl keep telling me to delete this person from my life forever, since he wasn't ready, and I wonder if that really is the right thing to do.
It seems the timing is wrong for both of us, yes, but we seem to have a connection, and it's kinda hard to move on, when you kinda feel that things could have worked out under different circumstances.

There is no "The One". That's just fantasy made up in your mind. There are any number of potentially compatible partners out there who, for reasons of bad timing, immaturity, being already taken, and many other reasons, are not able to form a viable relationship. This is all that happened to you. Don't make it more than it is, you'll be happier for it.
Ppl are telling you to break all contact b/c its generally the best and fastest way to get over an emotional connection to someone. Anyone who has been through a difficult and prolonged breakup will tell you exactly the same thing.
