Favorite Childhood Book
I'm in the market for a couple of books for a girl who is about to turn 8 (2nd grade), part of her birthday gift. She is really a bright girl and reads at probably a 10 year old level, however she does have ADHD and becomes distracted easily so I'm thinking a shorter book would be more suitable.
I vaguely remember the books I liked as a child, Amelia Bedelia and Charlotte's Web...and the Baby Sitters Club series but I can't remember at what age I was reading those.
I need to hit up Barnes and Noble next week but would like to go in with some ideas. If you can throw out some suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

If you want stuff that is more modern, check out "A Series of Unfortunate Events". I loved those, even as an adult. I don't remember the recommended ages, though... my kids were both pretty advanced readers.
I loved the Little House on the Prairie books whenI was a girl, but my daughter didn't like them. She loved those babysitter club books, though. :P
You might also want to look at abridged classics. They were pretty popular in my house.

I forgot about the Little House books! I loved those too and probably have the series stashed away somewhere but I can't see Macy liking those. I will look into those "A Series of Unfortunate Events" books.

My daughter was reading Judy Moody around then, I think. (I hated Judy Moody- she's a rude little girl). She also loved Captain Underpants comics and the Nancy Drew Notebooks.

I remember my sister reading The Babysitter's Club when she was that age, and Goosebumps as well. I myself loved the Hans Christian Andersen stories.
