wow it's been a long time! but i need advice

It's been a long time since I been here - I hope you're all well!! I saw some of the regs were still here - hopefully you guys can give me some advice

Just a recap:

have been with bf for 4.5 years now..and hopefully getting married next summer!!

over the last 2 years I've been getting to know his family and stuff and have found that they do a lot of stuff differently to mine..just general stuff .. which is obvious/common sense as they are a different family but some stuff i find odd/strange/new/different and was just wondering how long does it take to get used to that kind of stuff? adjusting to a new family and all?

Are you expected to do things their way? I have some experience with that. For example, my ex-husband's family was always getting together for potlucks, and they would tell me what to bring, like potato salad, but it had to be "mom's recipe" potato salad.

I never got used to it.

It depends on the degree to which the things they do odd / strange conflicts with your personal values and values of your family and how much self sacrifice you are willing to make in order to resolve these conflicts.

I suggest for this to be done before you get married.
