Saw "The NoteBook" lastnight.

So lastnight I saw The Notebook for the first time. Touching movie to say the least.

I was talking with a couple co-workers about it today. It seems to me most women woulda chosen to stay with the guy she was engaged too MIANLY because of his money and status and secondly because thats what her parrents wanted. I've never known a woman NOT to opt for the easier life style even if he didnt love her as thuroughly and completely as the other guy ESPECIALLY in their era. Back then a woman was only as good as the man she married and the guy was only as good as his money and life style.

I left a man with money. I am one broke-ass bitch now, but I'm happy.

Take nerds. They graduate with an impressive education and go off to make oodles of money. Yet through high school and college they're completely ignored by the opposite sex. Completely. Women are too busy letting stupid, insipid STD-infected jackasses plow them and treat them like shit. And then when school's finally over and the jackass is working at a gas station and the chick suddenly realizes what a shitty life she'd have living with a bum who'll cheat on her without a second thought, then she rushes into the awkward arms of the socially inept but newly wealthy dweeb whose mere existence she'd never before noticed. Bah.

I think a lot of woman lack the self respect necessary to make themselves happy. They are honestly, basically just trophy's//prostitutes. They don't 'love' their man and that's just messed up. As a guy I can't comprehend being with someone unless I loved every ounce of their being.

But I think the OP is right. Most woman would go for the guy with money or status. Even if its just perceived money and status. This is why those losers at the bar wearing Ed Hardy shirts with $10 worth of gel in their hair take home the girls.

The lack of self-respect is also a key ingredient. I mean, have you been to the bar?


BTW, Good for you gigabitch! I know there are good women out there I just need to find them. I've got a pretty poor batters average so far.

i don't like stereotypes. not EVERY woman is like that. it's all about the society you live in. like the US. we are capitalists...capitalism is all about giving freedom to the individual to compete against others and make loads of money. with that type of ideal pushed on us and taught to us since birth, money becomes the substance of everything. so it's not really fair to call all women bitches because some choose the rich guy over the sensitive guy. like giga, there are women who go the other way. there are so many factors that come into it, society, the media, the american dream, that it isn't fair to trash talk all women. there are sacrifices you have to make in both scenarios, it depends on the individual which sacrifice they will make...

I should rephrase, not every woman is like that you are right. But a lot are.

I think with real love nothing else matters. If you truly loved someone, but would have to live in a shack in Cambodia you would choose that over a house in the Hamptons.... IF you truly loved them.

I don't believe in the idea that you have to choose between money or love. It should be a no contest.

Also I think the individual who chooses money over love is literally a glorified prostitute. I know how offensive that sounds, but honestly. You are pretending to love someone and have sex with someone for money. That's almost the literal definition of the world's oldest profession. There are men who do this to. I'm thinking I might do it to be honest, I'm pretty upset with the opposite sex atm.

Also as individuals we have a choice in what societal ideals we ascribe to.

And what about men who will choose a beautiful woman even if she's a terrible person with no education, integrity or maternal instinct to be his wife and the mother of his children?

I hate those movies where it looks like the nerd will get the hot girl and she ends up with some guy on her level. The Notebook was pretty slow movie but wasn't too bad.

took the words out of my mouth. why are we concentrating on women ascribing to these ideals? ever think that because men set such a high standard on women and their looks, that it literally forces women to feel that they HAVE to be that way. you can say people have a choice on which ideals they ascribe to, but if a girl is trained since she was born to follow certain ideals and is pressured to follow those ideals for the sake of her future security, the "choice" you refer to isn't really a choice anymore. some girls are lucky and are brought up with parents who condone love over money. but our society has made that scenario very minimal. maybe if men gave intelligent women with brains and common sense a good rep, more women would go down that path. most guys i know call women who are smart and confident bad names. sorry guys, i think males in general have created this problem for themselves. it's been around forEVER...

A man who marries for good looks is just taking a trophy as a possession. Basically the same as taking someone for wealth. In this case, her wealth is in her physical beauty.

I'm sorry that I'm so blunt. Please don't take offense. I think most PEOPLE are glorified prostitutes with no self-respect. The subject was women so I discussed women.


There are still people out there who marry for LOVE (I think) and I hope to someday find at least one of these people.

me too, although i think the concept of "love" has a lot more factors that play into it. i doubt many people (men and women!) allow themselves to get to the point of loving someone without there being certain requirements...like the common "good looks" requirement by a lot of men and the "financial stability" requirement by a lot of women. both have their purposes.

i have a lot of debt from my student loans. i'm working and paying that shit off on my own, and will never expect another guy to pay them off for me because it's MY debt...but i know there are guys out there that would not marry me strictly because i have debt to my name. i wouldn't say it's because he's a glorified prostitute, but because he takes a lot more into consideration of marrying someone rather than just love. marrying someone solely for love is not always a good thing...

That's for sure. My parents married for "love". No love was in evidence by the time I was old enough to notice, I can tell you. Those people shouldn't have been allowed to marry, let alone to breed.
