My bf is having several couples over at his house next weekend for the soccer game.
Somehow he got it in his head that making gyro's is a fantastic idea. Obviously, I will be helping out. He's in charge of getting the gyro stuff but I am thinking maybe some pita chips and hummus. I want to make my own or even find some baklava.
Any other ideas you can think of? I'm thinking cheap and easy if at all possible. You peeps are always good at offering up good suggestions to me. Cuz yer smert. :D
Spanikopita is wonderful, if a little labor intensive. I could eat that stuff by the plateful.
Fasolia beans with olive oil, lemon, onions and parsley. Simple, understated and awesome with pita bread. Doubly good on a hot summer's day. Just boil the beans, set them aside to cool. Dribble olive oil and lemon juice to taste. Throw in the rest and toss. Yum.

Tzatziki is amazing.
I love a good authentic Greek salad. Greens, red onions, green peppers, cucumbers, a HUGE block of feta cheese on top, covered in olive oil and vinegar with a baguette on the side. Yummm.
Olives...its cheap, easy, and great finger food....and what is more Greek than an olive? You could have several different types on a tray with some good goat cheese and crackers.
Something to remember, Greek olives or Kalamata olives are much stronger then an "American" olive - good none the less though.
I want to come over - Greek food is awesome and this world cup should be good. There are a LOT of good teams this time around, although I think Spain is predicted to win.
Soccer? Haut Gout? What is this soccer thing? Spanikopita is really good, but you might try it's cheaper version, SPAMikopita! Sorry, bad joke. Whatever you do, make sure that the lamb for the Gyros is shaved really thin. Pita chips and bread, hummis, assorted different olives and cheeses and peppers should do the trick. I have a recipe for baklava, but I'll have to locate it.When I kicked the ex out, she took most of my recipes, the b*t*h!!
I make chicken souvlaki by marinating cubes of chicken breast in a mixture of lemon juice, olive oil, garlic (I put it through a garlic press), salt, pepper, and.....I can't remember what spice. Something they use in Greek food. It's like sage or basil or something.
Marinate overnight, then bbq on skewers and eat with tzatziki. Freakin' awesome.
