what do you say to someone on the internet whom you've never met or know but you think is attractive without looking desperate?

I want it to look smooth and not risking getting rejected...like 'i just want to get to know you as a friend and maybe something more but i don't care'

I would try the friend approach first, don't mention anything romantic/sexual. Try to strike up a conversation based off of a common interests.
