can I still be friends with my ex's sister?

over the course of my relationship with my ex, I became very close with his sister. she's a few years older than me, and we had so much in common. we went and saw a concert together over the summer, stayed in a hotel, traveled around, and I always loved seeing and talking to her. but now that we broke up, is it gonna be weird if we're friends? I think once I am completely over him, it'll be easier than it is right now. she has been talking to me throughout the whole breakup, actually told me that I was better off without him, and nothing has changed between us. but do you think it's gonna be weird? I know people who have remained friends with their ex's siblings and it doesn't bother them at all now since they're completely over their ex. I don't wanna lose her friendship!

Yes, I am. As long as you keep it seperate I don't see a problem. I go dancing regularly with my ex's sister but I never ever see him. And I wouldn't really want to. I also wouldn't go around their house if I knew he would be there. I'd be respectful of what HE would want... and that's most likely to never see me again.

I remember when I broke up with my first love when I was in my late teens and his mum told me not to forget her and that I could visit any time, despite me and the ex split.
Of course I never did go to see her...I chose to keep away and because I'd known there is every chance I'd run into him and if I became a visitor to his family home.

If he'd had a sister though, yeah I'd have continued to be her friend and if we'd been friends to start with.

You could still be friends with her. I was friends with my ex's sister before we got together, our friendship had watered down though, then my ex and me got together and his sister and me got closer again, till the point where we got along great and sometimes did stuff without him coming along.. not often, because they were close too. Me and his other sister became friends too. But then we broke up, I broke all contact because I couldn't deal with that family anymore, the way he hurt me.. and he and his sisters were very close. But now, after three years, his sister mailed me again, she learned my father had died and wanted to say how sorry she was, we haven't done anything yet together, but I have the other sisters mail address now too, and I think I'll keep in contact with both of them. They're great people.

I think you need to set up rules.. no talking about your ex. Do you really want to know what's up in his life now? Nu-uh. Only way you'll manage to be friends, is if you pretend they're not his sisters. ;)
