The Dissection

First they cut the black and blue skin
To get to the organs within
‘This is the liver, drowned by liquor,
Spirits and beer make it waste away quicker,
Here are the lungs, blackened and burnt,
She smoked too much, inhaled tar and dirt.’
They got to her vocal chords, now deprived of a voice
That once made a cacophony of noise
The eyes, blue, now dead in the socket
The there’s the heart, a broken scalpel to unlock it
Acerbic and shattered, held together by a thread
It passed away before she was claimed dead
Reeking of hate and aching with despair
She lost it, she just forgot it was there
