Introducing yourself to someone...

So maybe this has happened to you or maybe you've done this...

But say you're with a friend/significant other/whatever... and your friend/whatever sees someone they know, so they start talking. But your friend doesn't introduce you to that person and that person doesn't introduce themselves nor makes the effort to make eye contact with your or anything.

Do you consider that rude? :nerd:

Would you somehow try to get their attention to introduce yourself to them or just ignore them also?

What are your thoughts on meeting people and introducing/not introducing yourself to them?

I've learned that it's common courtesy to introduce yourself to someone so I do it as much as I can.

Yes it is rude, I've always been taught to introduce yourself or other people. Basic manners are disappearing these days.

Common decency is not so common these days, just like common sence.

Over the years though I have discovered that sometimes it is rude, other times it is saving your butt. There are people on the planet you just don't want to be introduced to.

I let them talk for a moment...
When their conversation stops, I'll introduce myself

I'm inclined to agree with Maidenminx, It's handy to have options if the person is just being intrusive and claiming the attention of the person you are with. (like if you are in the supermarket and a patient claims you to discuss their bowels because they are shopping for the high fibree cereal you prescribed) in which case you don't want to encourage them to be part of your private life. So it can be rude or self preservation.

I don't usually keep company with people who overlook me socially and its easy enough to say 'Hi, I'm so and so" if the situation arises. NEVER STAND THERE AND POUT, it just highlights a lack of social confidence in your partner as well as yourself.

I don't make a big deal about it, but it is a bit rude. And when the conversation pauses, I introduce myself.

It's only rude if it's done intentionally. The best thing to do is to wait for a chance to speak and introduce yourself with a handshake.
