In love with a girl but we are distant. HELP
So I'm head over heels for this girl who works in Film. She's 23 I'm 24.
We graduated from the same university and we took 2/3 classes together and chatted a bit but never really hung out. I was too shy back then. I didn't see her for a full 6 months after that (I was studying in London) and we hung out for an afternoon and saw a movie together in the summer. At the end of that afternoon (I had to go back to New York, as I was interning on Wall Street that summer) I hugged her and told her I had a crush on her since our first class together a year ago. She was nervous and texted me back later that night: "It was really good to see you but I'm at a very hectic place in my life right now where I don't think I can commit to anything other than friendship." I said sorry for hitting on you and said I wanted to be friends. She replied Yeah def!
Since then I got a job in Finance and ran into her at a film festival 2 months back (I love indie films and art like her), we chatted a bit and thought we should catch up but she's been busy. [I think life as a Production Assistant is pretty crazy].
Just two weeks ago I got another job and will be moving to New York City working on Wall Street - pretty much my dream job in investment banking that I beat 3,000 other applicants for. I found out she is moving to the city in two weeks as well. I been texting her since I ran into her but its been tough getting a time to catch up together.
I know how this sounds. But because I like her so much I'm completely fine with being her fall-back choice or even her 3rd, 4th backup as long as there is a chance I could be with her someday. Are all those movies about old friends falling back in love after 5-10 years just in the movies and never really happen? I just want to keep in touch with her, if she is not interested in me now, for that small chance that maybe someday in the future she would be. There has to girls that would appreciate a decent looking guy (I'm not that great, I would rate myself a 5 or 6 out of 10 objectively) that is successful in life and has the same interests as her.
How should I continue this? I'm a hopeless romantic and I'm head over heels for her and there will be never another girl like her. (She is half Finnish and half Iraqi so she is literally 1 out of a billion) How do I maximize my chances of just one day being her prince charming and giving her everything as a young ambitious successful investment banker living in Manhattan.
