I love him, but Im confused

My boyfriend of 2 years wanted to go on a break and then three days later said he realized it was the worst thing he could have done. He said how he couldn't love anybody else and was super sorry. I was happy and al, but things just went back to normal and I want a change. I love him and he is great, but I want him to show he cares more and invest more in the relationship. I want him to feel as though I might not always be there, but I feel like he's too comfortable and I don't like it. I have been making use of my time and hanging with friends and everything, but we live together so its hard sometimes for me because I want him but the relationship I'm in sometimes does not make me happy.
