Ex-girlfriend and I have been texting, thinking about getting back with her

I was hoping to get some advice.

About seven months ago I split with my girlfriend who I had been seeing for about a year and a half. We split as we felt the relationship wasn't progressing. After about a month I was missing her a lot so I attempted to get back with her, but she had moved on by then.

Contact has been minimal up until the beginning of November when she text me to asked how I was. We texted a few times over the next few days and then sporadically since. I wished her a merry Christmas and again we had a brief text chat, and she texted wishing me a happy new year this today. The conversations have been, in my opinion, plutonic, i.e. we've pretty much spoken about mundane subjects such as jobs, house hunting, advice on certain things, etc.

If I'm being honest I would like to give it another go, but I'm unsure she wants anything more than to be just friends. I feel there should be certain signs I should be looking out for if she was thinking the same? (i.e. bringing up past memories or maybe just being explicit and asking me how I felt about getting back together?)

I've contemplated asking if she wants to meet for a drink/food, but with no ulterior motive other than to just catch up?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just because you are lonely doesn't mean you should try to get back with her, you should try to get yourself out there and meet someone new. She hasn't shown any interest so that should tell you she won't be into trying again. IMO your ex is a dead end.
