How to develop "caring" attitude ?

Hey guys, i want a advice on behavioral issues that i have been facing.
As we know (correct me if i am wrong) that men are assumed to have "upper hand" in relation. By that i mean, girls want boys to "own" them, to take a stand for them when it's needed. and as far as i presume, that's quite important for any girl to start trusting you. if they know that you will stand for them in hard times.

But i feel that i miss that touch being a man. i want a advice how to develop that attitude and express it when needed.
