Help! Is my GF serious or was it a joke and I'm over reacting?

I don't if my GF was serious or not

we had a phone call yesterday, and I let her know that I got her a minion

she then goes "Is that to try and stop me from breaking up with you?"

... I said "No" and she went "I'm only joking"

I don't know what to think.

The thing that's bothering me the most is that before she even "joked" about the breaking up part this happened:


Me " Do you want the 2 weeks of space? "

Her "Why? I've missed you"



Why would she say she 'missed' me, but then joke of a break up??

It doesn't sound like you're giving the whole story here. What was the context of the situation? Why did you say "Do you want two weeks of space?" to begin with?

Why would you get her a minion? And why would you offer space?

I agree that there's a whole lot missing from this story.

Yeah, I have to go with the others here. There must be more to this story, and we can't necessarily comment fully without knowing the details. If you are comfortable elaborating, please do. Going based just on what you've told us, I would say this....

Sometimes people joke about something because they are actually giving it thought.....

But sometimes people joke about something just to joke about something. It could be she jokingly said that because she is at least thinking about whether or not she wants to continue your relationship. She could just as easily literally just be joking, and be perfectly happy with you.

Personally, that is the sort of thing I tend not to joke about (unless maybe I do so in an over the top enough way to make it painfully obvious I am just joking). Still, not everybody has the same sense of humor. I may personally not think it is something you should joke about, but it isn't so out of line that I wouldn't think anybody else may not think it is such a big deal.
