how to approach ex gf? How long to wait?

Had a very confusing breakup with my gf about a week ago. We talked about moving in with each other and getting married. A couple weeks ago she texted me that the thought of a future without me scares her. A couple weeks ago she looked at me and asked if I was going to break up with her. I said of course not.

We've been together for one year. The big issue in our relationship was distance. It took about 2 hrs on average to get to each other. She asked me to move in 5 months ago and I said it was too early in the relationship. In order for me to move in I would have to find a job closer to her. It was a big step. I knew I wanted a future with her but I also wanted to wait a little longer. Three months ago she brought it up again and i agreed to start looking. About a month ago I started getting texts from her that the drive was too exhausting and that she loves me but doesn't know how much longer she can do it. She has two young children that she shares custody with her ex 50/50.

Last week she broke it off with me and asked that we give keys back. The first day of the breakup we texted back and forth and most of her responses were "sorry I hurt you" "I wish it could have been different"

a couple days later I got a text from her asking what my plans for halloween were. We chit chatted a bit then she said again that she never meant to hurt me. Theres been no communication since.

She owes me money for a car repair i paid for her and she said she will pay it back in payments to me. So, at some point we will have to get in contact about that. How much time should I let go by before contacting her? Or should I let her contact me? I want her back but she obviously broke up for a reason. It may have been more than just the distance. Maybe she found someone local. I never asked.
