Crushing on my flatmate who live next door...help

I have a crush on my flatmate who live next door to me. We hang out a lot with each other and a good friend. My friends ask if he like me and he said that he only like me as a friend. But sometimes he show a sign that he might like me. Should I believe my friends word or ask him myself? He always make fun of me, wink and he keep tickling me. Should I tell him that I have a crush on him? I really want to tell him, but I don't want to make thing awkward between me and him.
