If you have a private account and follow someone is the only way they can get you unfollowed is to follow you ( request a follow ) because a private account, or can they get you unfollowed another way? Also what happens when you hide a request to follow, where does it go, does it come back and what does it tell requester? Just that it is pending?
can't they still block you even if you are private? so you can't see their page at all and would in turn cause you to no longer follow them? idk but would think so. not sure where the request goes should still be stored in your account info in case you want to actually add that account later. this is all speculation though.

i think it says requested to person waiting to be added.
They can't unfollow you unless they've followed you. But anyone can block anyone on Instagram, whether they have a private account or not.
I'm not sure what you mean by "get you unfollowed?" Do you mean can they stop following you? Because if they aren't following you in the first place, then they obviously can't stop following you because they haven't started. Or did you mean can they remove YOU from following them? That, I'm actually not sure. I can't say I've ever tried. I would guess you probably can, but I haven't ever tried. You can block people, though.
As far as "private accounts," from what I've seen I think you can still find the person's account, but only if you happen to have the link or know their username, real name, or whatever else might identify their account. You can still see their page even if it is private, but you won't see any of the pictures. It would just be a message saying they have a private account and you have to follow them to see what they share. Then, if you try to follow a private account, it has to wait for their approval rather than just being automatic.

Yes, I mean would someone follow someone just to do what only to unfollow and block after? Is that a person who only wants to see what photos the other has or who they are following in common? If someone followed one of you on IG and your account was private and that person didn't accept you but kept following you, what you do?
You know, I'm sure there has got to be a way to do it, but I couldn't seem to find it. That is, to remove somebody from following you. I am sure there must be some way to do it, but I could not find a way. Though, I don't have my account sent to private, so maybe it is different for that, I don't know.
However, what I DID find is you can block the person if you so choose. I would assume that to mean they'd no longer be able to see your posts even if they had been following you. If you want to do that, then you just go to their page and click on the three dots near the top. That gives you several options.
So, if you want to remove them, it looks like that would be one way to do that.
As far as why somebody would do that, there could be a number of stupid reasons why people do that. We can't really say because we wouldn't know. But, I would say the most likely reason is probably they just wanted to try to pad their number of followers, but didn't want a bunch of people they don't know/don't care to follow making their feed of stuff to view get overly cluttered. So, they just follow people knowing a good number will follow them back, then they just unfollow most of them. Lame, but that is people for you.
I would just let them following me until they typed something offensive or spammed by page.. I would care if it just means they prefer seeing others content and liking posts, maybe they do not have much in way of IG content for people to look at so at not bothered by less followers.
I only delete or unfollow if they'd show me a valid reason to remove them. ie being an asshole, spam, rotten comments on photos, harassing followers
Agreed. I'm pretty liberal in who I keep around on my Instagram. Unless you are rude or offensive I generally don't care. The only other thing that will get me to delete somebody, even if what they are posting is legit and NOT spam, is somebody who posts like a million things in a row. I'm not talking about somebody who just posts a lot in any given day. I don't mind that all that much. I'm referring to something I've actually seen people do on occasion, which is to post a ton of posts all right in a row. That I find irritating enough that I'll unfollow somebody if they do that enough.
Instagram gets busy enough without people on my feed posting a million things in a matter of minutes.
I keep all my stuff private because of creepers/stalkers & the like. Had issues in the past with people so I learned the hard way that if I want anything social media I need to private it & monitor who I accept there after. If someone followed me I would look at their page & if private I would not add them, or looks suspicious wouldn't add either ~ not much sense having a private account if you let everyone in to it is how I feel. :[
Maybe I'm the one who is weird, but I never really understood feeling the need to have something like Instagram but make it private. I mean, maybe that is just me since I don't share anything I'd really care who did or did not see it.
So, as somebody who DOES make their page private, maybe you can share your thoughts and feelings as to why. If you don't mind, of course. I'm just curious. For example, do you not like the idea of strangers finding your page? Or is it more to avoid people you KNOW and don't want on your page? Or for whatever other reasons?

There are several reasons why ~ I had issues with creepers in the past & I have a lot of beach/pool/bikini pictures & personal photos so I like to private my account & not make all that public & up for grabs. If I just had scenic shots, pet & food images I wouldn't care, but also have images of my BF, his family & my family who don't have social media & wouldn't like their images blasted all over the internet. Also for a particular ex as well, who when account was public would add on several fake accounts & made comments.
Yeah, I guess maybe that is the difference that didn't occur to me. I don't really put up anything I'd care all that much even if a completely random stranger saw it. I guess if you have stuff like bikini pics, I could see why you'd not want just any random stranger being able to see that. If I had stuff like bikini pics up, nobody would WANT to see that. LOL! Would serve random creepos right.
I can also imagine feeling the need to be more private if you have had problems with creeps in the past. Thankfully (knock wood) I haven't so far, but I imagine that may happen to women more frequently than it does men.
I think IG should be like FB and you have to accept people to your friends list, even if you have a public account people should just be able to add you even if you don't know them.
I think they can just block you and that unfollows you and then you can no longer ever see their instgram page again while you are signed in on that account, you can see it off any other account or when not logged in so you can always follow them again on another made up account if you wanted but if it is a private account they can pick and chose who to add or not. I hate when people only add others to get more followers and then quickly delete those people they picked to follow, when this happens I would always go and unfollow back and block them :) Do need to see me at all internet addicts.
