Why can't women accept compliments?

Probably not

But with manipulation and narcissism I could convince you (depending on the level of your self perception) that you don't deserve to feel good about yourself anyway and you won't be able to get anyone else who's better so you might as well settle. It would disgust me and horrify me personally to hurt another person to such a great extent, but I can see how others may try it and even get away with it.

While the guy who "could have" made you feel good about yourself was rejected due to being too straight forward.


It's just sad to see it happen in front of me.

This is what I would have said. There are lots of ppl that can't take a compliment. Not just in relationships either. I observed this just recently in a meeting w/a young staff member. It was like she didn't want to believe when we said she was doing a good job. Weird.

You have to get these ppl indirectly. Slip the compliment in almost as an afterthought after discussing something more neutral: 'Oh btw, before I go I just really wanted to mention that I think you have the most awesome smile. Really, I mean it. Anyway, thanks for xxx and enjoy the rest of the day.'

That kind of presentation makes is very hard to deflect negatively without looking very bad.

Up until you mentioned this, Mishanya, I didn't think that it was an issue that is common in women. I have met a few women that do say thanks, but more often than not it is someone who is uninterested or just being nice.

I personally accept compliments! What's wrong with that? I really don't see a problem with a guy telling you what he thinks of you and saying thanks in return!

I don't know about the rest of the female population, but I used to have quite a bit of trouble accepting a compliment. Every time someone said something nice, I heard the shrill voice of my mother in my head, denying every nice thing.

Anybody else ever have this problem?

maybe not the mom voice but yeah definately got the voice...it unfortunately does very often come with women. beyond parental or specific person issues I say blame it on the crazy ideal woman posted on every billboard across american

I can take a compliment as long as it's sincere.
