I understand what you're saying. I really do. In fact, if I had been discussing this with you about someone else a year ago, I would be laughing at those people right along with you. When I first met him more than a year ago, I thought it was a harmless little crush-thing that would pass soon. But it didn't.
I don't think it's fair for you to label it as cliche when you don't even know all the details of the dynamic between us.

I'd tell him how you feel. Sure there might be an age gap but sometimes the heart is stronger then the head. I once had a friend who was concerned about an age gap but when she put it on the table the guy was flattered and confessed he felt the same way.
Why not see what happens? You'll never know unless you put it out there.

BTW, professor or no, he's divorced. That should be a red flag that this guy likely has some issues. No divorce is ever completely one-sided. Good luck.

The coffee thing sounds great, and I think I could probably get over my fear, and just ask--but the problem is, I still don't think he would get the picture. I thought he knew for a long time, because I do a REALLY bad job of hiding it, but after thinking of the past few days, I'm pretty sure he doesn't.
