Aeradalia, if it's about what I think it is then you don't have any obligation to forgive or forget that evil individual. Realize though that the more you cling on to that person's memory the more harm you will be doing to yourself and that's what's really important, not to harm yourself any further. Sometimes it's good to accept what's happened even if it happened for wrong completely unacceptable and outrageous reasons and move on. Release your feelings of helplessness and frustration. It may be very hard, but it's the healthiest thing to do.
I think forgiveness is more for your own sake. And like Vashti, I think it's worth pursuing. And like everyone else has said, it's about not letting anger or hurt take over your life.
Also, forgiveness doesn't mean giving someone another chance to walk all over you. You can forgive a bad boyfriend or a cheater without taking him back, or necessarily ever talking to him again. And yes, it can take awhile to actually "feel" like you've let go, like you've forgiven the person, but before you've actually reached that point, you can make a decision to work towards that. In my opinion, that intent is forgiveness.
To embrace anger and vengence is like taking poison yourself, and expecting the other person to get sick. It's better to let that anger go.
