The starting salary for an aerospace engineer with a PhD is $73k per year, far less than that of a computer engineer with a PhD that starts at $92k per year.

FYI, the 'starting salary' for an assistant professor is also in that range. I don't know *any* who are being paid that amount. What happens in the real world, Cain, is that competitive candidates shop around and get multiple offers. Then, the competing institutions manage to find something called 'market differential'. Suddenly, that 73K becomes 91K because of an additional 18K thrown in. Salary increases are pretty generous after that, and bring ones salary over 100K within 3 -5 years.
Its the same in engineering, only more b/c you are dealing with governments competing with private sector for highly trained individuals. I'm not pulling my numbers from some website, this is my own area & that of people I know.
But, if you are willing to take 73K per year, I'm sure there is a firm that would be happy to accomodate you. :lol:
ANYTHING computer or IT related is a sure fire way to land a good job these days. Computers are and will be the future from here on out. Everything is related to computers in some way, and the demand for people who can harness a system will always be there and plentiful at that.
You're looking at entry level jobs that pay $25-26/hr and go up from there.
Honestly, you can't go wrong no matter what direction you go in that sector. Dip your feet in all three and figure out what one entertains you most and go from there.

This thread was just things I started to ponder. It was kind of a walk down memory lane regarding the types of things that I was previously thinking about. Ultimately, however, I'm still going to do my first two years of general education courses so I can be sure of what I want to do either way. I love law. That won't change.Quote:
