Today he caught up to me while I left the building. With his phone ready in hand, he asked for my number. I just gave it to him, not saying much. He said he'd call and we'd catch up. Lol. I'm not getting my hopes up :P

I disagree. He's probably a nice guy who thinks she rejected his advances once and has built a bridge and gotten over it.
The second mess around was when he asked or implied he wanted a woman...the right answer would've been "you might not be available, here's my number you asked for".
Honestly, if I knew the two of your personally and this was going on, I'd invite each of you seperately to a bar at the same time and not show up myself!
Sheesh! If you are too nervous to ask him directly, write your number down and also write under it that when he asked it took you by surprise... if he calls, he calls. If not, my number is...ok, just joking.
