i've only said it when i meant it. totally depends on who's saying it... people define love in different ways, others may not have the same understanding of love that you might. but if someone says it to you, i think you should take it at face value.
unless they do something to make you think otherwise! feelings do change.
5 people have said they love me in my life, i believed them all... and to this day i have no reason to doubt that they did at the time.

I totally agree with Mish. I've said "I love you" before only to realize a week later that I was "in the moment" and that while I cared for the person, "love" wasn't the right word. It's taken me some more experience to figure out the differences.
I'd never been more afraid of loving someone than my current boyfriend. The first month we dated was incredible and perfect and I was falling so hard. I was terrified that I would blurt it out before he was ready to hear it. We were THAT couple you see (or don't see) hiding out in my bedroom, looking into each other's eyes. It was almost sickening, but I loooved it. I even had a dream that I told him I loved him. I woke up freaking out, wondering if I'd really said it.
I've been in love with several guys, but nothing like what I have now. I don't want to say there are degrees of love, but I do believe that each love I've felt has been different from the others.
I have said it to only a handful of women in my life. I meant it every single time. I can only sleep with a woman if I am sure that we are both in love with each other.
My current girlfriend and I had that understanding from the beginning.
I've maybe said it and thinking I loved them at the time, only to discover I didn't.
But I've never said it and just for the fun of it.

I had a boyfriend who was very angry when I said I did not love him. He reproached me that if I care about him I would say that I love him too.I think some men understand love wrong.But maybe not just men.....
Works both ways with this one... but with so many different interpretations of love then id suggest it would in most cases need to be more then words. The majority of us at some stage (especially guys) will say it to get what we want.
This^ has been my experience with guys as well. The ones that say it, mean it. What is amazing is the guys always seem to continue to mean it, no matter how bad the breakup was or how much time has passed.Quote:

I've said it to two girls, both times I started saying it because it seems likely the girl was going to break up with me if I didn't. I don't think I loved them, I cared about them a lot, though and I've glad I've gotten to say it at least.
