Puppy care

Funny....all he does is let the dog know who's boss....makes total sense. I watch my mom use some of the methods, and she can't believe how much her crazy ass dog has settled down. You have to spend a lot of time with your dog and repeat lessons, it's a no brainer.....the biggest mistake people do is treat the dog like a child, so they end up getting away with everything. You are actually training yourself in how you treat your dog.

So it's not so horrible for everyone....do what you are most comfortable with and what works best for you and your schedule.

yep, i seriously need one of those. i am reading up on the net, but a book would help to always have around. my relative is a vet, but we are not very close and i wouldn't be comfortable calling him with questions all the time.

Ya it's common here for that too happen. We also have to watch out for cougars, bears and eagles. Even seagulls will attack small dogs and cats.

hey guys, i was wondering if anyone could throw any puppy names around. my friends have dogs named max, mozart, armani. any ideas?

Trevor. Had a dog named Trevor when I was a kid, great dog. :)

Bella, Missy, Mini, Meme, Bonnie, Cassie, Sasha, Mercedes......

When my family and I were trying to choose a name for a female puppy I noticed all the names started with M and that's what her name ended up being.

ok, no a different note, my coworker is giving me a 55 gallon aquarium. what could i have there besides fish that would look good in a dining area? turtles? frogs? which are easier to take care of?

Stick with the fish.

He works on the "pack mentality" theory, where your dog should see you as pack leader. Its a load of crap, dogs know we are not dogs! he bullies the dogs into doing what he wants, uses electric shock collars, physical punishments etc etc. As someone who runs training days and seminars teaching some of the top sports dog handlers in the country/world, I find my positive reinforcement methods work. Anyone who uses otherwise is living in the dark ages (as th US are in dog training).

Turtles have a lot of bacteria, like salmonella. Frogs make noise and should be out doors. There are lots of variety of fish that are inexpensive. Tip: don't put a large amount of fish in at the same time. They will stress out and get Ick....and it will wipe out everything in your tank. Start off with 2 feeder fish to get the bacteria balance going in the tank. Your best bet is to talk the the sales people about starting up a tank, and care.

I have never ever see him use shock collars, or punishment, or abuse. He barely touches the dog. You are wacked.


Oh yes I see you are more of an expert...typical of most who post here. I'm sure you do fine with your job, but I don't see TLC interested in doing a show with your inovative techquniques.

And to add, the type of training you both do are in two different categories. He doesn't train dogs to flush out ducks or pose unnaturally for show. He is a dog behavioral expert. So you are comparing apples to oranges.
