I am 18, I manage my own money I have a full-time job and I am in college. I have many friends who are similar to your boyfriend. But, your situation is a bit more extreme. I can say that ur boyfriend is really lazy. I believe you should really talk with him about it. He needs more encouragement. Maybe even go 2 the extreme of talking with his parents about it.

Make saving money as a habit. He need to hurry up and get a job first. And then start planning how much he need to save at the end of each month..
also read up on financial books related to save $$ .. :)
and
lot of motivation, some goals (like $$ for future marriage) to keep one going.

The only way he wll even learn to manage money is for him to live on his own and you and his parents don't help him out. Sometimes being exposed to this reality will give insentive.

So let's say the significant other (without mentioning gender, here) has a full time job, works hard, but is still bad with money. It's not a reason to break up, right? How do you...fix the problem? Would you be hurt if your significant other suggested you maybe read some books on the subject or take some kind of course?
