And today, after this, what's the first thing the girl does? Doesn't show up, and lets me know an hour later that she was doing something else and won't show up at all.

If my new job pans out I'm going to need a new laptop. Right now I'm sporting a netbook. The keyboard's just too small for me to type at my full capacity. I've got my eye on a Macbook Air. Only my sister just recently got a standard Macbook. I would feel intensely guilty if I stole her thunder by getting a slightly cooler computer. Arrgh. Maybe I'll just get a great big honking Alienware instead. I'm sure no one will mind the turbine-like roar of its fans. Just got to make sure I'm able to plug into a power outlet at all times. Or hell, maybe I can convince her that her computer's cooler because it's got a DVD burner. Just nobody tell her physical media's so passé.

Facetious though this may sound, I'm genuinely concerned. Worse case scenario, I guess I never have to show her the laptop.

You don't have to buy a whole new laptop. Just get a really nice usb keyboard. There are some high quality portable models available.
