There are two hard facts that every LDR couple must face:

1. They have allowed some outside factor to come before the relationship. College. A job. Military service. Something.

2. Unless maybe one of them is in a warzone, there are probably plenty of eligible single people around both of them.

Maybe that's the difference. My friend let nothing stand in his way - his wife is from Thailand, he's from the U.S. My brother took leave and flew to marry his HS sweetheart/wife and bring her with him. I let nothing get in my way - my wife is amazed that I came to Arkansas to be with her - but I've told her (and it's true) that absolutely nothing short of further incarceration would keep me from being with her. I will do anything, endure anything, go anywhere to be with her, and she feels the same way about me. I came here because it made the most sense at the time. Soon enough it'll make sense for us to go elsewhere, and we will.
