Had a stupid fight with my girlfriend. She was giving me advice, but I felt that her tone was somewhat demeaming, especially since we were talking about debt and financing options, and I'm a CPA making decent money as the director of finance for a rapidly growing company. So it escalated and I swore at her a couple of times. She dared me to swear at her one more time... I looked her in the eye for a few seconds and then swore at her again. (All three times I said, "What the f*ck is wrong with you?") So she threw her wine glass down on the wood floor, spraying red wine and shards of glass about. I grabbed her wrists before she could break anything else, and this time just asked her (not yelling), "What the f*ck is wrong with you?" Then I let go and she stomped out of the apartment. In the 8 years that I've known her, this is only the second time that we had an argument turn this ugly.
Surprisingly, neither of us cut our bare feet, and my cat fled the room when the yelling started. I spent a half hour cleaning up carefully and still managed to cut a finger on some glass. Then she called to ask about some class registration stuff she left behind. She wants us to both cool down overnight before she comes to get her registration materials, but then we ended up talking things out for a half hour anyway. We're both still unhappy, but we're also both sorry it happened and calm enough to talk.
