You're a pretty interesting fellow, Grib. Brains bigger than balls & well-balanced to boot. That's a compliment, based on what we know about your balls. ;)

Did you know that on your dog tags, in the US army, you can have 'Jedi' as your religion?
I'd choose 'Bene Gesserit'.Quote:

Tone and I could cook a 3 course Spanish gourmet dinner, naked. All for Somby.
Remember, no pants no shirt rule.
Tone, let's move to San Francisco together.
San Fran... Gribble, you obviously lack the opposable thumb.
That's true. Though, I found that countries with compulsory voting systems tend to have "leftier" governments that aim to represent all sections of the electorate and community or at least a wider segment of the voters. It's harder to be sponsored by certain niche interests when everyone has a say.Quote:

By the way there were a lot of intelligent voters who voted for Bush the last election. I think they voted for him because they had a vested interest and they could make a direct profit from his presidency. I read in US only 67% of the population votes. Meaning only 34% is needed to tip the balance in a two party system. 34% are hardly representative of the entire country and all sections of the community. Fringe groups have an easier time running the country without anyone's consent.
Would be interesting to see new parties rise up rather than the same old. Two general policy lines isn't much of a variety.
The system really only supports two parties. If a third party turns up and actually gains momentum they'll just be cannibalizing themselves by stealing votes from the party most in line with their views, allowing the other party to win. For that reason they'd end up being assimilated into one of the two parties.
Unless the third party finds a way to get all the people in US who don't vote (one third of the country) into their ranks. Imagine, a new party made strictly out of non voters becoming the dominant party in the next election. Technically, it could happen.
