Oh okay. So the vodka part makes it "russian", I see. Just kahlua + milk = brown cow (i.e. my chocolate milk).

Whatever. I finally got around to reading the ingredients on the kahlua bottle. Apparently its just coffee & rum + sugar. I might as well just add Bacardi to my iced coffees & I'll end up with a brown cow anyway.

Which make me think, how many kinds of basic liquors are there anyway? Things like Bailey's doesn't count b/c that just whiskey + stuff.

So, here's what I could come up w/off the top of my head:

Rum (from sugar cane)
Vodka (from potatoes, I think)
Whiskey (from rye)
Beer (from wheat & barley)
Wine (from grapes)
Sake (from rice)

Did I miss anything? I'm not sure where gin comes from.

What about tequila?

It was Sambuca that did me in the other night. Three shots in a row, bang, bang, bang. I was doing alright up until then. A girl drunk me under the table! She was a Sambuca monster. She did three more after I left.

Tequila? Dunno.

But they must distill stuff from corn. I know pure ethanol comes from that, but not what else.

I think sambuca is sugar, alcohol (dunno what) & anise.

Vodka can actually be made from almost anything, any starch/sugar-rich plant matter from grains such as sorghum, corn, rye or wheat or from potatoes, molasses, soybeans, grapes, sugar beets and sometimes even byproducts of oil refining or wood pulp processing.

Tequila is made from a succlent plant called "Agave tequilana azul" or "blue agave".

There's kumis, fermented mare's milk. Low alcohol content, but I do believe there's a way to distill it.
