Later on after we broke up and I reviewed our relationship more objectively, I've noticed a lot more of these thinking processes. For example, she'd ask me for advice and then be unhappy if it differed too much from what she was thinking. It made me feel sorry for giving her advice in the first place. I put it down to immaturity.

How a person thinks can give clues to how they'll act or react... and predicting anothers actions can come in real handy in most aspects of life... not just relationships..
Psychology barely qualifies as a science, IMO. Except for the animal studies.

The mind is simply too complex for the simplistic and crude tools that psychology uses at the moment. But I do think it is on the path to becoming a field of science that will start to yield more reliable results... eventually.
I do agree that it is often wrong and tends to draw the wrong conclusions... Growing up I was misdiagnosed so many times and the predictions made about my behavior couldn't have been more wrong... but I still think that through trial and error as well as incorporating some new ways in which to observe, psychology can become a 'real' form of science one day.
But only because there is so little known about the mind and it's one of the few sources available to us when it comes to understanding. You can say Astronomy barely qualifies as a science as well, but if you want to know more about the universe that's the place you will end up going to (there are simply not many other tools to turn to).Quote:

Perhaps you should look up astrophysics (i.e. astronomy). I'd say that is VERY rigorous. Newtons laws of planetary motion and all that. :bored:
That's exactly it, how much IS learned in Astronomy? Very little. And that which is known changes all the time (Our modern understanding of Black Holes is just a tiny example). It's not very reliable information. But even though it's not very reliable we continue to come back to it, because it's something we need to know.Quote:
