My Grandma told me after their 50th wedding anniversary, that the early years of marriage are the worst because you're changing as a person so much as you go through life, and that you grow apart and then back together several times over the course of your life. Then when you get older and arrive at the same place and stay there, your marriage becomes that much stronger, and you're happier. You've weathered the storms together and the end payoff is understanding the other person and just riding out your end years together.

Hearing that made me realize what a treasure your marriage can be after all those years.

Eh, my early years of marriage weren't difficult at all.

Of course it depends on the couple. I bet you weren't married at twenty, like my Grandparents.

I don't think monogamy will ever go obsolete, completely. I've read the opinions of experts on this subject, and they've coined a new term for what's developing: serial monogamy. hmm.... yes, but the raising children part suffers with this. So many children have to go through divorces nowadays, which can be so painful pretty often.... which makes me think my idea is not so far-fetched. We'd get stable households, but still freedom of the partners to go on and "love" whoever they want.

I think this only makes your idea more practical, and better for children. It's wishful thinking to say that it will happen because of that.

I don't really have any tips, except that you shouldn't marry someone you fight with even before you are married.

Haha, yeah right. Everybody fights.

Not everyone... I never really fought until there were kid issues arising. I'm not much of an arguer, though.

My fiance and I have only had two fights in almost three years. They were also resolved within a couple of hours. We're too laid back for that crap.

how about don't marry someone you have to go to therapy with before you're married.

I always have to laugh at that, misombra. "We have so many issues that we need therapy to keep from killing one another, but let's get married." :D

my mil goes to therapy with her crazy weirdo boyfriend she been with him like 4 months or some shit.
