They both are visually stunning but I liked District 9's more graphic and hardcore realism. I thought the entire Aladdin in space love story was a bit corny but no surprise from the guy who made Titanic. I liked the movie just didn't seem...plausibly real. Even biologically avatar was more phony cause what are the chances that an entire evolutionary chain creates a copy earth with basically minor detailes changed. I mean the animals were so familiar I figured he was on earth fighting hyenas in that one scene. The Navi or whatever their names are have 5 fingers also? come on! it isn't another planet and world...it is earth 2. Also the story is not original at all...it is invasion of Indian land and a love story thrown in. Basically the history of the US. I still liked it just was shocked no one realized those things.

The Na'vi have four fingers (3 fingers + 1 thumb), Jake had 5 fingers, although I assume thats because his avatar is a mixture of human and Na'vi DNA.

But yeah, I agree, a lot of the animals appeared way too similar, and some of the genetic mutations nonsensical (6 legs? why? what evolutionary advantage would six feet give an animal that would make that redundancy an attractive trait to overcome its high energy cost and additional body weight - okay, I'm a nitpicky asshole and its unrealistic to have such high expectations of movie makers, but the constant 'hey everybody, everything has 6 legs on our planet - isn't that alien?' theme really bothered me).

I did like Avatar, I thought the 3D effects were cool, and I'm glad somebody forced all these movie theaters to upgrade to digital and 3D tech, this will make it much cheaper for other movie makers to roll out similar films, I'm hoping Alice in Wonderland (3D) will have as cool effects.


Films I'd recommend: Taking Woodstock, District 9, Paradise Now.

Oh, for horror films, I abso-****ing-lutely loved, LOVED Zombieland. Such a good movie. It was awesome. I'm rather pissed TV stations turned it down as a TV show, I'd love to see weekly episodes from Zombieland, but I'm excited for the sequel.

I love those type of movies. When i was younger i watched those type of war movies quite often.

I let the guy working at Blockbuster choose movies for me. I'm gonna be watching Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Hurt Locker in the next two days. If they are all good, I am going to make the Blockbuster guy my friend.

Good ones! Mostly independents and snotty foreign films (when I can get out to see them). But lately, also those with Daniel Craig. :D

Not sure why I like him... I am generally much more attracted to dark features.

I don't typically like supernatural stuff or fluffy nonsense.

haha i watch a lot of japanese television... mostly comedy and dramas though.

I was telling Asip that I love foreign films, but I always have to go alone because no one else I know likes them. (Well, there is ONE woman I know who does, but she annoys me, so I'd rather go alone.)

Legend of 1900 and Shakes the Clown are well worth watching..

Shakes is well worth watching if not for the lunatic binge drinking relapse at the childrens birthday party, for the Mime bashing in the park. Imagine three clowns cruising in a convertible swilling on beers, suddenly all yelling "mimes!" (practicing in the park), hitting the breaks, and beating the hell out of a mime while yelling, "You silent motherfockersz".

I think I overdosed on war movies. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was good but depressing, and I followed it later by watching The Hurt Locker, but was utterly unable to connect emotionally to any of the characters. I actually even dozed off for 10 minutes at one point. Maybe I'll try to rent it again later, a little closer to Oscar time?

lol. So you weren't happy with The Hurt Locker? i didn't see it yet but i know a little bit about it..Not sure if i'd like it...I think i'll see The Boy in the Striped Pajamas first.

Not really. It must be the girl in me, but I like to feel like I really care about a movie character, but the way this movie was made wasn't really conducive to that. I mean, watching people die shouldn't leave you feeling numb, I don't think.
