Why ever not? You do realize that your local MP is obligated to meet you if you request it? If you can convince him your request is important, s/he will put you in contact with the MP in charge of that particular issue.Quote:

Don't write a letter. Letters and emails get ignored. Request a meeting (phone w/an email followup) and bring a letter summarizing your issue with you. Always tell them what you would like to see as a solution.
Oh interesting.Quote:

Most of the reason I have never tried to have my voice heard by a politician is until recent years I had no interest in politics, which is quite ridiculous considering I live in a country with compulsory voting. I'm only just now trying to get my head around politics and have on occasion found myself on sites aimed at teaching kids about politics just to get my head around how it works, let alone trying to get my head around the particular policies that are currently relevant.
To be honest, I hate politics... or rather I hate the media BS involved with it. At the moment our PM is being slammed for going back on a promise (regarding the carbon tax) and it's not looking good for her. What absolutely baffles me is how everyone seems to forget that every PM breaks promises, and then the fact that the PM they choose to use an example of excellence broke 2 major ones (he introduced the GST and screwed with medicare).
You definitely have me thinking though. We will be due for another election in the next 18 months or so I think and I'd like to actually make and informed decision.
Ahhh... gotcha. I took "Stop having babies" as a blanket statement and didn't realize you meant the other point to address that.Quote:

She probably knows more about any given subject than the entirety of your knowledge combined.Quote:

I don't know much about aerospace, not compared to my engineering friends who actually build the things. But that article isn't about aerospace its about atmospheric science. But the answer to your unasked question is simply that I read widely and I live in a house of guys, full of guy stuff. Pop Sci, Pop Mech, etc.
What does your earnings have to do with this article? I know plenty of people who make more than me. Not all of them are intelligent. Its not that hard to make money if that is your only goal in life. I certainly do know where you live. I've been there a few times. Again, not sure the point except I think its a wonderful part of the world. Unfortunately I couldn't live there b/c there are no jobs for someone like me. Brisbane would be the closest I could get.
I was actually discussing this with a friend of mine recently. He's an astronomer that's gone blind.Quote:

I dont how to take that..? I Laughed my guts out I apologise if it was inappropriate.
Well, Indie, in some islamic thread, you asked me, if i would swap jobs? So what has that got to do with that thread? Anyway I'm just stoked ATM. I just landed a sweet job in the mines, and I found a beach today, called hideaway bay.....I'm just glad I live on the worlds biggest island.I can see what saying about intelligence though.......I've seen mechanical engineers, that cant even weld steel. How retarded?Quote:

It wasn't particularly funny to him. He'd just gotten his Master of Science in Astronomy and went blind. Ironically, he'd been making his living as a photographer.Quote:

I was just reading an article about this. Apparently MIT engineering freshmen don't know how to build things, such that they needed to create a course to teach them these skills.Quote:

As for the income comment, it sounded like you wanted to compare penis sizes. My bad if I misunderstood you. I saw your other thread and what you claim you make. Its a decent upper middle class wage. But I also see you repair heavy mining equipment. You are one of those supporting the very industry this thread is about. Coal mining is huge in Oz, as I've said I've been there. In fact, I was there when the tanker ran aground near Rockhampton, destroying a section of the reef near that lovely area you live in.
CEOs were making obscene salaries before the financial collapse, and they are the ones who caused it. Like I said, making money is easy. Making money and not selling your soul to do it is a bit trickier these days. The job swap was a joke: you likely couldn't do what I do and I wouldn't want to do your job.
So, lets get back to this thread. Do you have an opinion on the article? Do you understand it? This is not a criticism; if your background is heavy machine repair its unlikely you will understand what these physicists are saying. I'm happy to discuss.
