Just finished The Stolen Child. I really got into after the first few chapters - was reading it every chance I got and kind of raced and skimmed through the end. I thought the plot was good, the writing was slow-paced and somewhat old-fashioned but still engaging. But the ending disappointed me somewhat - I don't really know why.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, quite an intriguing read!!
Save your money, Grib^. Regenesis was okay, but way too much poli-psych and not enough plot. Still highly recommend Cyteen (I), tho.Quote:

Anyone else here read Fight Club? If you saw the movie and liked it, the book is really good to. Very dark, but its a very entertaining read. My only complaint was it was to short.
I finally got around to reading Cyteen. I'm about a quarter of the way through. I tried a couple times before but I could never get past the first couple chapters. The book really picks up afterwards.
Really loving it so far. Tons of intrigue. Brilliant people trying to outsmart even more brilliant people.
Picked up the book The Pianist while I was away and read it. It's one of my favorite movies and the book was, of course, even better.
Also read The Time Traveler's Wife. Not a huge fan of it. Has anyone else read it? I was a bit confused by the ending.

Its more than great fiction. There's tons in there that a really smart person can use. Don't become an asshole, Grib. You can make people cry or worse with that stuff.
I watched "The Reader" recently and enjoyed it. Based on a book, so kind of fits this thread. Makes you think across generations, which is a different tack than typical for a story about the jewish holocaust.Quote:

The language really annoyed me, though. Why did they speak English with German accents? And then they would occasionally throw in some German for minor characters. I just don't see why they were so insistent on getting a German boy to play whatshisface (in English) and then got English actors for almost every other role.
I've read a bit beyond that point. It's wild. At first I thought she was just a horny old lady trying to get at the father through the son, but it seems there's more to it than meets the eye.Quote:

Finished "on the road" by jack kerouac a week ago.
Great book.
Currently in between Eclipse and Pride & Prejudice (my 3rd time).
I've been meaning to read "The Princess" so I might get a copy of that next.
I'm reading Nine Stories (it's nine short stories) by J. D Salinger author of The Catcher and the Rye. I'm trying to read everything else he's written because a friend of mine told me it's better then Catcher. So far, it's been great.

everyone has heard about it.. some say that
the movie didn't quite satisfy what's in the book..
and they're quite disappointed about it.
good thing i haven't watched twilight yet..
i'm going to try to read the book first then watch

Just wrapping up Clive Barker's Weave World for the fourth time, great book.
I keep meaning to read Clive Barker. I love a good horror story.
