Well, the east coast of Canada is rather intolerant of groups like PETA. Not as 'liberal minded' as some other parts of Canada, which I happen to like. I read it was a local radio station that decided to go after the protesters after they pied Ms. Shea. Tit for tat, and free speech goes both ways, I suppose.
I can respect equality on the battlefield, Indi... despite my beliefs and old school homespun wisdoms handed down to me from prior generations.
I know it's not fashionable, and I know I'm not 100 percent representational... but that's time and environment talking.

I actually plan to do both. She will remain a 'friend' of the group as for her and I, I've pushed her so far from my heart that I really don't give a shit. Ok here's my two cents: Your friend is obviously ridiculous. The expectations for you to pay extravagant amounts and eat food you don't want to eat? These are all HER problems, not yours. You could calmly state your opinions and let her be the angry one. Or you could get upset and outraged.
Some people will never be rational even when presented with rational arguments. If you want to keep friends with her you'll need to allow her to have her points of view, however irrational or distasteful you think they are. Tolerating her opinions or at least her right to them, does not mean that you've given in and condoned shark finning. It just means that you no longer choose to get angry about the fact that someone won't see things the way you see them.
Actually a stable ecosystem in the ocean is very important because more CO2 is absorbed and converted to oxygen by ocean life than by all the trees in the world...its a major problem with the ocean becoming warmer because a few more degrees warmer and the environment changes to the point that many fish die along with the plant life which will invariably lead to not only an issue with food shortages around the world but also an exponentially increasing global warming problem.Quote:

Taking a major predator out of the ecosystem means that there could be an increase in fish that would eat the plant life that would generally be converting the CO2.
Thats why I generally support the use of fish farms...they can breed and grow them in captivity which will really help the overfishing problems we are having around the world.
Its all terribly interrelated.

View points aside, shark isn't all that great anyway. Its grayish when cooked and has a strange consistency and lemon taste.
