Study: Body Odor Boosts Sexual Arousal In Women

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley found that a compound in male perspiration changes hormonal levels in heterosexual women and boosts their sexual arousal.

Their findings were published this week in The Journal of Neuroscience - and just in time for Valentine’s Day, which is this Wednesday.

The researchers say the study offers the first direct evidence that humans secrete a scent that can affect the physiology of the opposite sex.

The study was conducted last year and involved 48 UC Berkeley undergraduate women who took 20 sniffs from a bottle containing a compound related to testosterone.

I don't know how accurate it is about women, but I definitely don't mind it.

And by don't mind it I mean, I like it.

I actually really like natural body odor.

Nothing extreme like working out then not showering for a few days.

But like, how a person smells after skipping a day of showering, where a lot of the soaps and shampoo residue has dissipated and there's natural oil on their skin. A fine mix of faint perfume and a hint of musk.

I'm dirty I know.

I mean a girl will smell good right after showering, but it's all overwhelming soapy perfume. I could find that by huffing a bottle of their shampoo or conditioner. Just doesn't get me revved up.

Actually, people really aren't meant to shower every day. I mean, I do it out of a personal preference but we really are the only animals on earth that bathe in full on soap and water as often as we do. All we really need to do on a daily basis is freshen ourselves up, i.e: washing the face, armpits, and...other regions prone to oiliness, sweatiness, or smelliness. Washing your skin too much actually irritates it.

In actuality, we probably only need to shower every other day, at the most.

And I'll admit, it is kind of sexy when a guy has that "I showered this morning, but like ten minutes ago I just ran around and got sweaty" smell. I don't like every guy's sweat smell, though. But that probably has something to do with pheromones or whatever.

I hate you Vash. With wind chill it was all of 3 degrees here, and nothing but ice everywhere.

wasn't there already a study like this? I remember hearing about it. I believe they're talking about *fresh* sweat, which does not smell like bad BO.

see? that's fresh sweat. wasn't there another study showing that our scent reveals stuff about our immune system, and we're more attracted to the sweat of people who's immune system would compliment ours?

If I don't shower for 3 days, not only do I smell, but rashes form on my skin, particularly to the crotch area. I have no idea why this happens(I found out because I went camping for a while), but I usually shower every day.

Also, you can sunburn your nuts. I have done it before; all the skin peeling off was a bitch; it rips hair off with a kung fu grip.

Haha, that doesn't surprise me. I've never gone tanning but the people I know who do say that the first time, they got some painful sunburn on the areas that weren't accustomed to light :) I guess you have to go for like 5 minute intervals. Anyway, lilwing, that sounds mighty painful....

I used to only shower every week, at most..
it's really only since september that I started showering every day. I've noticed that my hair and skin used to only get too oily/greasy after a few days, now it does so within a day.
